 1.   GRAPPLING IS 365
Unfortunately most sports are impacted by seasonal ebbs & flows, the weather, and so on.. When I was steeped in professional City living at the turn of the century, I played softball during the regular season but then *boom* as soon as it ended so did my workouts. As my body took a break, my brain grew complacent and so it became hard to get myself off the couch. Months would go by - my physical self unattended.  I really don't get excited about traditional gym workouts with the exception of a rare great personal trainer focusing me on targets.  Competing against others is what really gets me motivated.  A full time grappling gym operates all year and my core team has always been there to pick me up when I get lazy, pushing me to train and improve my skills.  This has kept me  from falling out of Healthy Street!

2.   GRAPPLING IS ADDICTIVE
Though grappling has been on our earth for millennia, I've watched seemingly countless new developments in the world of the grappling arts occur just over the last 12 years.  New students today have the advantage of being able to stand on the shoulders of giants and pioneer new, even greater discoveries. This process is an excellent way, like learning a new language, to promote brain plasticity and strengthen cognitive functions. If creativity and strategic thinking through games motivates you, you may catch or may have already caught the Jiu-Jitsu bug.  As the header above asserts “grappling is addictive."  The good news is that this bug's got your back on health!

3.   GRAPPLING GYMS ARE FULL OF
       POSITIVE PEOPLE

I can still recall that first month in the summer of 2006 when I got to know my coaches and fight buddies at Fairtex gym in San Francisco.  I was so envious and inspired because they lived what I could only call super-energized lives.  I, on the other hand, felt "like an old boat" as one training partner poignantly quipped while I jogged creakily and listlessly around the mat. These guys became my role models and motivated me on so many levels in which I am very grateful. As I grew tougher over the first year, I got healthier and my training days increased. Naturally, I began to spend more time with fight friends and less time with my negative influences even after gym hours. In 2010, I went into a full time life of grappling.  Today I enjoy drawing from a huge well of energy. .
